This week, we began our new special math unit, fractions! Students explore different parts of a whole to understand this new concept. The Montessori Fraction Skittles allow the child to feel 1, ½, ⅓ and ¼ and compare the parts. Our practical life shelves integrated the new works of pouring 1-2 and hammering, both are new techniques to strengthen hand-eye coordination and hand muscles. We also enjoyed pickle tasting, a fun gustatory lesson comparing sweet and dill pickles. The Body Sock was added to our movement shelf to focus on body strengthening and provide proprioceptive and deep pressure input, offering calming and organizing benefits to the student. Lastly, our Kindergarten students were able to join Kenwood Elementary for a special author visit by Jarrett Lerner!
