Early Childhood West began the week discussing Veterans day and read a book about it. In Practical Life this week we began cutting and slicing wooden fruits and vegetables. Lacing boards were also added which prepares for the skill of sewing. Our new Sensorial unit was about big and little. Students explored this vocabulary through sorting items that were big and little. Our large Hexagon box was added to the shelf and introduced the shapes of rhombus, parallelogram, and hexagon. Solid cards were added to the geometric cabinet to match and color box 3 introduced grading colors by light, medium, and dark. The next step to our metal insets was showing how to use two metal insets together for pattern and design. The singing bowl was a new peace work from Nepal. A wooden rod is used to brush along the edge of a brass bowl which creates a beautiful sound from the vibrations. The class enjoyed going on another hike this week to sprinkle the kernels they shucked off the cobs for the outdoor wildlife.
