May 24, 2024 Lower South

This week we are truly winding down from the school year and working on closing our classroom community.  The children are working on scrubbing and cleaning the classroom chairs and tables.  They are also scrubbing slipper boxes, book bins, and some shelves.  As the week goes by they will be bringing home items that they will no longer need for the last week of school.  This time of year is always bittersweet.
On Tuesday, the students had a presentation from  local BG City Arborist, Adrien Lowien-Kirian.  She took time to discuss her recent visit to the school to examine some of the trees on our grounds.  She addressed concerns that some of the students had about taking down the trees, about the animals who live in the trees, and about the lack of the variety of trees we have if one particular type of tree is removed.  We are grateful for her expertise and the time she took to help our students understand her job and why it is important.
Finally, we would like to wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day.  Although we have several days left after this “beginning of summer weekend”, it is a good time to spend with family and honor those who have sacrificed their lives for our country.
Enjoy!
