March 13, 2026 – Lower North

It’s been a busy week! The students were given many new unit lessons.

Our newest Math unit is graphing. Younger students were given lessons on graphs, including the pictograph, bar graph, and the circle graph. Older students were shown how to plot a coordinate. Activities on the shelf will allow them to explore this concept further.

We have started a unit on Birds for Zoology. This unit introduces students to the fourth classification of vertebrates. Much of the work is nomenclature which will cover information on parts of the bird and types of birds. There are different types of feet, beaks, and nests that students can learn about also. After some learning of these facts students will be able to do further investigations of different birds of the world. It is that time of the year that many birds are migrating back to our area. It is exciting to hear their voices and see them in our woods surrounding our school.

In Geography, we started a unit on the continent of Australia. Students will work with the classic Montessori puzzle map and biome map. They can choose nomenclature of the flags, animals, biomes, famous places in Australia and more.

For Grammar, our students received a lesson on masculine and feminine nouns. Students pair noun labels (e.g., king/queen) using picture cards.

Finally, we introduced contractions to the students on the Word Study shelf.  Contractions can enhance English language skills in lots of different ways. Learning how to shorten two words using an apostrophe can be tricky and a challenge. Our students are always up for a challenge. 🙂

We hope to see YOU at our school’s Strike for Safety Bowling Fundraiser at Al Mar Lanes from 2:00pm-6:00pm on Saturday.
