December 6, 2024 Middle

Happy December!
Welcome to a very busy season for our adolescents. This week saw the soft opening of our microeconomy, Mustang Cafe. While there are a few kinks to iron out, the introductory gambit was a rousing success. Thanks to everyone who participated and gave feedback. It was a wonderful learning experience and we will get better. We’ll see everyone again next Wednesday (11th).
In Science, we are learning to use household items and chemicals to build freezers. Ask a middle school student what their process has been so far. We began a new book in Literature: Ghost Boys, by Jewell Parker Rhodes. It is heavy, but funny at times, and the students seem to be into it. We are enjoying their drawn picture panels of story events, summaries of key moments, and even re-enactments of the contents of the book.
With the holidays right around the corner, our baking elective has ramped up, including lessons in cookies, following instructions (and then tweaking them to fix a recipe), and how different substances affect the baking process.
That about does it for this week. Tune back in for our next episode, “Moose on the Loose” or “The Case of the Missing Rocket Fuel.”
