Here’s the weekly update from the MSBG Adolescent Classroom!
In the classroom, students have read the first three chapters of The Outsiders and are holding their first Literature Circle discussions. Their focus is on character traits, stereotypes, societal pressures, and discussion questions they’ve developed themselves.
For our Microeconomy, we currently have three active projects:
- Quail Project (name coming soon)
- T-Shirt Shop (name coming soon)
- Mustang Café
Each student belongs to one of these projects to gain hands-on experience in financial literacy and economics. In a Montessori microeconomy, adolescent students have the opportunity to participate in and manage small school-based businesses to help them learn these skills. They’ll also have opportunities to contribute across projects as time allows.
In science, students created mini-habitats collected from the school grounds to observe living organisms. They also tested vials with various materials under different conditions. Last week, we began microscope work, learning about the field of view and magnification.
In history, our lessons center on the Age of Empires, with an emphasis on analyzing cause-and-effect relationships while studying regional geography in relation to human activity.
For our grounds cleanup, we kicked off our yearlong grounds cleanup initiative by edging sidewalks, clearing brush, and pulling invasive plants. The weather was perfect, and students had a blast working together. Grounds cleanup will continue throughout the year as an optional Work of the Hands.
Looking Ahead:
Our next Family Education Night will be on October 2, 2025: The Montessori Journey. This evening will give families the opportunity to walk through the school, experiencing the student journey from Early Childhood through Adolescence. Parents will have the chance to explore materials firsthand and see how they support the backbone of a Montessori education.
That’s it for this week! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Jeremy or Kayla at middle@montessorischoolbg.org. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Stay tuned for next week’s update, titled: “History Repeats” or “Déjà Who?”
