It was a busy week in Early Childhood! Our sandpaper globe was introduced as well as our colored continent globe.  The first puzzle map, the hemisphere map, was demonstrated and introduces the continents and their names.  In Sensorial, we began our first special unit – Color! This work encourages students to explore and differentiate between colors, blending colors and shades of color. The initial Geometric Solids were also added to the sensorial shelf, a foundational work that introduces 3-dimensional shapes. Students also learned to independently use a tape dispenser on our supply shelf. This week we also opened the Writing shelf and introduced the Metal Inset Frames. This classic Montessori material is foundational and allows the child to strengthen fine motor skills and pencil grip in preparation for writing. Tracing in lentils and pre-writing tablets were also added to the Writing shelf. The medicine ball was added to the movement shelf, while floor sweeping was added to our Practical Life shelf.

We ended the week celebrating International Day of Peace as a school community.  Promoting and raising awareness of the ideals of peace is our primary focus this day. We wore white or blue and shared our creativity with the school using peace stones to decorate the peace pole out front.  This is also our kick-off for Peace Pals, a group of multi-age peers meeting once every two weeks from Kindergarten through Middle School.
