After collecting our peace sticks last week, students had the opportunity to paint them. As a community we then put our peace sticks in a bundle and learned that we are stronger when together than we are by ourselves. We continued visual discrimination with our red rods in sensorial, learning the vocabulary of short and long. Our pre-writing shelf opened this week as the tracing box was introduced. The tracing box allows us to use our fingers in dry beans to create shapes, lines, and letters. It helps prepare our fingers and hands for formal handwriting. In Practical Life, clipping was added to the shelf. Students use their fine motor skills to clip a variety of clips onto the rim of containers. Our first science unit was shown this week on apples! We learned about different types of apples, parts of an apple, tasted different kinds of apples, and explored how they can be used. Thank you to the families who donated apples for this unit! In movement we hopped from spot to spot on the movement mat. Breathing boards were added to our peace corner to learn special techniques for slowing our breath and calming our body. Kindergartners made their first visit to the book mobile to pick out a book from the local library. These books will stay in the classroom for them to enjoy.
