We began our week with a special art and peace project-adding a family picture to the peace corner family book! Students enjoy adding words and pictures around their family so they can enjoy it the rest of the year. We also began our Handwriting Curriculum this week for our kindergartens and younger friends ready for writing folders. Initial lessons are primarily focused on pencil grip and correct letter formation. Practical life introduced cutting clay and clipping clothespins – both aim to strengthen hand muscles and concentration. Our first science unit, trees and leaves was also introduced. Works include matching leaves, sorting types, 3-part nomenclature cards, writing booklets, tissue paper tree art and tree rubbings. Our classroom community also collected and painted our individual peace sticks for a special Montessori peace activity later in the month. Finally, we added hopping spot to spot on our movement shelf.
