In the Classroom
Microeconomy
Mustang Cafe opens this Wednesday, October 29th, at 8:00 am. Students will need to be at school ~7:30 on Wednesday mornings if they are helping to open the cafe (this is not every student; those doing it should let you know).
Electives
Our elective courses begin this week! Each student has chosen at least one of the following courses: Podcasting, Songwriting, Guitar, Electronic Music, or Cooking/Baking. We have been talking as a group about the importance of independently regulating work time in the classroom with the addition of elective courses. We are using some extra planning tools and taking some extra time on Monday morning to plan as a group in the hopes of building a platform to effectively and efficiently fill our own agendas and planners. This is high-level executive functioning, so we anticipate a fair amount of difficulty, but we are optimistic about the amount of growth that is achievable through this process.
Fall Conferences
Conferences went very well this past week. We hope that everyone gained something from the student-led process, wherein the students take ownership of their work and have an open and honest conversation with their parents about how they work in the classroom. If any parents wish to have a separate meeting, without the student present, please send us an email.
That’s it for this week! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Jeremy or Kayla at middle@montessorischoolbg.org. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Stay tuned for next week’s update, titled: “Hold the Homo-phone!” or “A Capital Idea”
