October 3, 2025 Lower North

This week, we extended our studies on invertebrates to building invertebrate shelters. The students researched what kind of environments invertebrates in our area live in and built them with materials from nature. They then placed their structures in an area outside on the grounds, and will spend a few minutes observing any visitors over the next few days.

Our word study shelf introduced syllables. Students practice clapping out words to count the number of syllables in words.
We are also “stretching out” numbers with our math unit on expanded notation. Students are taking numbers like 56, 593, 4071, and 305,430,125 and discovering place values.
We have started Writer’s Workshop. Students will spend 45 minutes twice a week practicing their writing, illustrating, and storytelling skills. Our first writings are narrative, small moment stories.
Have a great weekend.
