We continued increasing our fine motor skills as pin-punching was added to the pre-writing shelf. This work allows the child to focus on pincer grasp as they pin holes around a shape and then use hands to punch it out. Our new science unit was about land, air, and water. Students also discovered what animals and transportation can travel by land, air, and water. Our new Sensorial unit uses our sense of hearing to identify sound and no sound. The cube of the trinomial was also added to the sensorial shelf to sensorially build smaller cubes and prisms into a larger one. Students were introduced to the writing name basket to practice tracing their name for handwriting. In practical life, we added pumpkin works, including wrapping rubber bands around the outside grooves and transferring tiny washers to the pumpkin stem. One of our most popular movement works was also demonstrated: the body sock. Students explore putting their body into a fabric body sock for a light pressure and calming experience. They can then stretch in a variety of ways for an extension of this work. Thank you to those families who attended the Journey this week to learn more about the materials and classrooms!
