“It takes a village to raise a child” is an African proverb that we take seriously. As teachers we support our parents to work on teaching and help raise the children that cross our paths. We meet with parents to discuss the growth of their child and in turn parents choose to support us to help them grow. But we also need the help from our community. This week we went beyond the teacher and parent and began our Volunteer Readers program. We ask for volunteers to commit to a day that they come into our classroom to read, or listen to students read. Having them come in from our “village” is so beneficial for our students. We are grateful to these volunteers.
It was an important week in History. On Tuesday, we took part in the election. The students voted on what dessert to have for our Thanksgiving Feast at the end of the month. Last week, we introduced an Election Unit that the students were able to learn that an election is merely making a decision. We make our own decisions daily but deciding on a dessert for everyone needs a vote. The winning dessert that was chosen…jello!
Have a great weekend!
