This week in the Adolescent Program we are keeping incredibly busy.

We went on a student-designed field trip to the Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor. The goal was to see the process that the coffee goes through before it reaches the consumer. We got so much more than that! Steve was enthusiastic about the whole process and gave the students a thorough run-down of the whole operation, including their candy-making. On the way home, we stopped at BREW in Toledo, where Kara and Joe taught the students how to properly pull an espresso shot, steam the milk for a variety of drinks, and give them some practice at doing those things.

All of this is in service of the Adolescent students opening their own coffee service, Mustang Cafe, at MSBG. Be on the lookout for more information coming soon!

The students are also working hard on their electives. Several students are in the middle of writing a novel, others are doing some carvings in wood, and yet others are learning how to bake.

In Science, we are learning about chemical reactions. We are practicing melting and dissolving substances while keeping track of our processes, observations, and measurements.

In History, we are discussing the factors that will lead to World War I, as well as the advancements in technology and social practices of the early 20th Century. The presentations are worth asking about.

Thanks for joining us. Tune in next week for our episode, “The Problems with Math” or “That’s Not How I Do It.”
