We are grateful some of the teachers were able to travel to the AMS National Conference in Denver, Colorado while others attended virtually. We took part in sessions and workshops to enhance our professional skills and knowledge in Montessori Education. We are renewed with many ideas and plan to incorporate them in the classroom.
This week we introduced our Story Problems unit in Math. The students are practicing reading information in a short paragraph. recognizing and recording the facts that are needed to solve the problem, and identifying the key words used to know what process will be used to solve the problem.
We have switched Geography units with the other lower class and are now exploring North America. This continent study will focus on the three main countries; Canada, Mexico and the USA. This continent lies mostly in the Northern Hemisphere and is surrounded by three major oceans. It stretches from the polar, frigid cold climate zone to the torrid climate zone. This allows for much diversity in the continent’s culture, vegetation, animals, and industries.
We would like to thank Rebecca Green, a former parent, for coming in to share her expertise on Africa. Rebecca’s presentation included African wildlife, culture, geography and attire. Students were able to play different instruments that were made in Africa and they were able to try on the different ways people wear African wraps. If you’ve been receiving requests from your child to go on vacation to Africa, now you know why!
