Happy February! We heard the groundhog saw his shadow and predicted 6 more weeks of winter weather! So we continued some winter art by using saltwater to paint a snowflake design on paper. We also introduced paper punching on the art shelf combining fine motor and shapes for collage work! Our beautiful bell table now has the C major scale to play and match the bells notes and pitches together. Children can also compose their own musical pieces! Our new math unit is on money. Children are learning about the names and quantities of coins up to one dollar. They are discovering different ways to make $1.00 as well. Banana slicing was our next food preparation work as children sliced and ate a banana. Thank you for the banana donations! We have a few friends who have been very interested in the movement of yoga so we added yoga cards and poses to explore on the movement shelf. Nuts and bolts were added to our practical life shelf for some “hand as the tool” twisting works. We added a liquid tile to the peace corner to apply pressure and move liquid around. The children also learned about the mystery number. They look at objects in a box and write down the number of items there are on a piece of paper. We go over and solve the mystery number as a community on Fridays. Kindergarteners received a lesson on our cubing chains from the bead cabinet to learn about the cubes of the numerals 1-10.
