It’s been a cold couple weeks but Early Childhood has been busy with so many new works across all curriculum areas! The past two weeks have brought some fun, new food prep lessons. First, students practiced their pouring skills to make their own bowl of cereal and milk; then, this week we demonstrated banana slicing using a special slicer. Students could prepare this food and then enjoy eating. We’ve added new units to Math, Science and Geography. In Math, the Measurement unit allows students to use different units of measurement to explore length. In addition, we explored the odd/even lesson and the 1000 roll, teaching place value while writing numbers and building concentration. In Science, students began exploring Magnets and the study of positive/negative charges. In Geography, we began the study of My City and My State. We introduced how to identify nouns in our classroom environment, and it is always fun to watch what students notice and write on their lists! Our sensorial area introduced our full bell scale, an auditory experience teaching the sounds of the C scale. In Practical Life, we began exploring Nut and Bolts and yarn snipping, both works aim to refine coordination and hand/eye coordination. Our beautiful light table was introduced to the classroom. This work allows children to explore color and shape and how light refraction enhances our colorful, transparent mediums.
We were very excited to celebrate the 100th Day of School together – it’s been a quick and happy journey! Don’t forget to bring in your Valentine’s for next week! Have a wonderful weekend!
