December 20, 2024 Middle

Hello again, and welcome to the last week of school in the year 2024!
Our adolescents are having a week filled with projects and activities, so let’s take a look at what they’re into.
In our Baking elective, we learned how to bake pies from scratch, using a “perfect pie crust” recipe. A cherry pie, fresh strawberry pie, and old-fashioned cream pie filled out an impressive roster. Thanks, Mary Ann!
Our Chemistry unit comes nearly to a close with an experiment using limewater (calcium hydroxide) and our own breath. Atom recombination is tricky, but kind of a fun puzzle.
We completed our reading of Ghost Boys with a brief discussion about the Civil Rights Movement. This conversation will gain a lot more steam in the coming months.
The Mustang Cafe had its first go at an afternoon opening with rousing success. The cake pops we made were a significant hit! Thanks, Brynn! If you would like to give us some feedback, we created a survey you can take. The link is below.
Other activities for the week included a scavenger hunt that started with a proofreading challenge and a snow globe-themed escape room (grammar and vocabulary-based).
Come back in the new year for our next episode, “Janu-where is it?!?” or “That’s Just Good Eatin’.”
