Our class explored many traditions and cultures this week for the Holidays. We studied Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Students put candles in a Menorah, and played the dreidel game as they learned about the eight nights of Hanukkah. They also painted the Star of David at the Easel. Kwanzaa brought us the discovery of the Mancala game that originated in Africa as children played with stones and holes in the ground. We learned about the skill of weaving mats, and learned about the seven principles of Kwanzaa. In art, children made a Kinara candle holder. We also had a fun food preparation work as friends frosted and decorated a sugar cookie! One of our favorite extensions of our sensorial red rods and knobless cylinders is to use them to create the “Sensorial Christmas Tree.” The class has also been working on some very special holiday gifts for their families that will be sent home next week!
