After a fun and full first week, students are starting to settle into routines: learning their classroom jobs, choosing their work, and beginning to build our community together. This coming week, we’ll be raising the bar a little with new expectations and more learning opportunities.
Special classes began Monday with Music (and Band for those who’ve signed up). Students also had P.E. and Art on Wednesday, and Spanish on Friday.
On the academic side, we’re diving into our first Literature unit with The Outsiders. Most of the reading will happen at home, so parents, feel free to read along or chat with your student about the story. It makes for great conversations. Students will sometimes get reading time in school, but much of it depends on how they choose to manage their work.
We’ve also launched our Microeconomics class on Tuesday, where students choose from several project options. History and Science classes are getting underway too, and daily Math and Language work will continue. In addition, our classroom shelves are stocked with plenty of independent work to help students take ownership of their learning. Students also began their Grounds Cleanup projects this week.
That’s it for this week. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Jeremy or Kayla at middle@montessorischoolbg.org. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
And stay tuned for next week’s update, tentatively titled: “Book ’Em” or “Page Against the Machine.”
