We celebrated Valentine’s Day in our classrooms on Monday.  Wow!  We alphabetized our valentine’s, delivered them, we did some math riddles, and had an afternoon full of activities.  Our students walked home with a bag full of goodies.  We hope that they felt the love!

We have a short week but we did introduce a new word study unit.  We have learned about synonyms, antonyms, and now homonyms.  Homonyms are words that sound the same but have a different meaning.  They are broken down into two categories.  One category are the homographs, words that are spelled the same with different meanings.  The other category are the homophones, words that sound the same, are spelled differently, and have different meanings. This unit,  just like the previous units, aids in building vocabulary skills which helps in Writer’s Workshop.

We look forward to meeting with all of you during conferences.  Please recheck your day and time and we’ll see you then.
