Heidi is a full-time mom to Upper Elementary students Lucy and Peter, and she’s been enthusiastically involved in MSBG in a variety of ways for going on five years. She loves brainstorming with the rest of the team to bring all the fun to MSBG PTO events. When she’s not planning and facilitating family fun for our community, Heidi enjoys quilting, graphic design, and creating miniatures.

Jodie has been described by people around her as an “organizational wizard”, which may explain her vast array of activities, which includes her third year being on the Executive Committee for the MSBG PTO! Jodie works full-time as the Assistant Director of Compliance in Financial Aid at Owens Community College and is the Administrative Coordinator for Weddings for the Ages. She is the mom to Upper Elementary student Bradey, and this will be their seventh year at MSBG. In addition to MSBG PTO, she is also heavily involved in The Masterworks Chorale of Toledo, St Mark’s Lutheran Church (adult choir, bell choir, and she runs their Puppet Ministry), Greenwood Chapter’s Ohio Order of the Eastern Star, and supporting Bradey’s endeavors with Black Swamp Fine Arts School and Horizon Youth Theater. Jodie loves planning events to bring our community together, and is looking forward to another great year!

Jennifer Erd is honored to serve on the PTO Executive Committee at the Montessori School of Bowling Green. With a strong belief in the value of parent involvement and community collaboration, she is dedicated to supporting students, families, and staff through meaningful PTO initiatives. Jennifer brings 2 years of PTO experience along with business management experience from owning/operating Tanlines Wellness Sun & Spa and BREW coffee bar in the Toledo, OH area. Jennifer is passionate about helping foster an inclusive, supportive, and enriching school environment. Outside of PTO, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her husband Joe and son Landon, currently 3rd year in Lower South, as well as boating and traveling. She is grateful for the opportunity to give back and be an active part of the MSBG community.

Atonn (it rhymes with “baton”) Smeltzer has been a member of the MSBG community since 2019, when his child entered the Early Childhood classroom; he has been involved with the PTO since it was rebooted after the COVID pandemic shutdowns. Atonn grew up in the Cleveland area but relocated to BG to attend BGSU and fell in love with the BG community. He now owns and operates two small BG-based businesses: Money Concepts, an independent financial planning practice, and Weddings for the Ages, a wedding officiating service. In addition, Atonn regularly volunteers with and/or serves on the board for several local non-profit groups, including: the Black Swamps Arts Festival, the BG Rotary Club, BRAVE, Wood County Masonic Lodge, and the Cocoon. He also enjoys singing, learning to tap-dance at the Black Swamp Fine Arts School, playing guitar, bike riding, and playing board games or video games with his family.

The MSBGPTO has invited our families to collect plastic caps & lids to be recycled into benches. We’ve partnered with a company in southeastern Indiana that works with schools and community groups all over the country to turn their trash into usable, sustainable items. You can drop off your CLEAN, DRY, 100% caps & lids into the bin provided in the Lower South hallway, and we’ll take it from there! Almost any type of 100% plastic lid or cap is acceptable, from peanut butter to spray paint to applesauce pouches to Play-Doh, and so much more. At this time, we have collected enough lids & caps to make two benches, and we’re hoping to continue this program well into the future. but we can’t do it without your help. Feel free to contact us at familiesofmsbg@gmail.com to learn more, or to volunteer to help with the sorting or delivery.
Once again, we had MSBG meet ups at various parks around the area, from 2-6pm. We would love to hear any feedback about this endeavor, so that we can plan ahead for Summer 2026 (whether we continue with this or try something else)!
Room parents are there to support the teachers of their classroom they are assigned to by :
1.) Helping with gathering volunteers
2.) Helping with planning parties for the classes
3.) Helping with teacher gifts for the holidays and for the end of the year. The activities and involvement is strongly dependent on the teachers’ needs for the classroom you are a room parent for.
Help to plan our events or just volunteer to help run them or set up/clean up afterwards!
Montessori Education week, and some of our events involve food. You can choose to help give monetarily towards food for an event, or you can help to bring snacks/desserts if an event calls for them.
For any MSBG community family who welcomes a new baby during the school year, we will offer meals for a specified amount of time, and you can choose to help out those families.
Busy? No Worries!
If you feel called to help the PTO and just can’t commit, you can always support our events with donations at any time or share your ideas with us! Email us at: familiesofmsbg@gmail.com
