What a wonderfully, busy week we had! We completed our family photo book and placed it in the peace corner for the children to look at. We also completed our “peace bundle” compiled of each individual’s peace stick they painted that represents them. When put together into a bundle, it now represents our classroom community and like the strength of a bundle of sticks, we too are strong when we are together. Our peace bundle can be found in our peace corner tied with a peace ribbon. In preparation for the International day of Peace, our class was able to partake in coloring a school banner for the special celebration. On Friday, we enjoyed a school wide celebration as we gathered around our peace pole, sang songs, learned about the International day of peace, and “chalked the walks” with designs and pictures that are peaceful to us. Our kindergartners were introduced to their peace pal groups where they will continue to meet as a group to discuss lessons around the theme “Act Now for Peace.”
Works in the classroom included our first sensorial unit study on colors. We identified colors, explored primary and secondary colors, and experimented with color mixing! In Practical Life we introduced floor sweeping; a much needed care of environment work for those after meal clean-ups! We also explored stringing beads onto a string, and cutting clay to introduce the use of scissors. In math, our set basket was shown. This allows a child to sort out objects and then count to find how many are in each set 1-10. We also had a lesson on the numerical rods 1-10, which sensorially mirrors the red rods but introduces the concept of 10. Our first food preparation work was tonging carrots and spooning hummus! Rolling the medicine ball was an enjoyable two-person work from the movement shel,f and our listening center is officially open! Children can enjoy listening to a book on CD in our reading loft! Handwriting lessons on the Easel or in folders on paper also began this week!
