Here’s the weekly update from the MSBG Adolescent Classroom!
Literature
Students have now read the first six chapters of The Outsiders and are holding their second Literature Circle discussions. The next section of the book delves into more serious themes, and students may bring thoughtful questions and strong reactions as the plot develops.
Writing
We’ve launched our “My Own Museum” writing curriculum, beginning with main topics and guiding questions. This week, lessons will focus on identifying credible sources and learning how to take effective notes. For students seeking creative outlets, optional prompts in short story, poetry, and flash fiction are available, perfect for those who want to experiment with different styles of writing.
Science
In Diversity of Life, students are examining the structures of plant, animal, bacterial, and protist cells. They’re comparing these differences while also exploring the variety of microscopic organisms found in our school’s acreage.
In our Weather and Waters section, students are learning about air pressure and how it influences wind patterns. Using weather maps and isobars, they’ll practice predicting conditions and discussing how these patterns shape the weather we experience.
Microeconomy
This week marks an important step: students are drafting business proposals for their projects. Each proposal will include start-up costs, potential revenue, target demographics, and space requirements. The goal is to have proposals written and submitted for approval by next week.
Looking Ahead
As Fall Camp approaches, we’ll be preparing together by discussing meals, our service project, hiking safety, and packing essentials. Students will take part in a live packing demonstration that follows the checklist already sent home, plus a few additional items they may find useful.
Our next Parent Education Night, The Montessori Journey, will be held on October 2, 2025. Families will walk through the school to see the full Montessori path from Early Childhood through Adolescence. Parents will also get hands-on time with classroom materials that form the backbone of a Montessori education.
That’s it for this week! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Jeremy or Kayla at middle@montessorischoolbg.org. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Stay tuned for next week’s update, titled: “The Plot Chickens” or “Cluck and Dagger.”
All the best,
Jeremy & Kayla
