Our pre-writing shelf opened this week as the tracing box was introduced. The tracing box allows us to use our fingers in dry beans to create shapes, lines, and letters. It helps prepare our fingers and hands for formal handwriting. In Practical Life, clipping was added to the shelf. Students use their fine motor skills to clip a variety of clips onto the rim of containers. We continued our care of oneself through the snapping dressing frame. Our first science unit was shown this week on leaves and trees! We learned about parts of a tree and parts of a leaf. Leaf stamping and leaf rubbings were a popular art choice. Many different types of leaves and trees were identified and discussed. We also extended this unit outdoors as we enjoyed a nature hike and nature rubbings. In movement, we hopped from spot to spot on the movement mat. Breathing boards were added to our peace corner to learn special techniques for slowing our breath and calming our body. In sensorial we began exploring the blue constructive triangles which use a variety of sized triangles to create two dimensional shapes and pictures.
