Happy Fall! We discussed the season of Autumn and what changes we can observe. Our class enjoyed a fall hike on the trail together. Our next science unit was all about apples! We learned about a variety of apples, parts of an apple, where they come from, and how they can be used. We also used our sense of taste to eat and enjoy different kinds of apples, including Granny Smith, Red Delicious, Gala, and Honeycrisp! Painting an apple at the art easel was also shown! In Sensorial, we introduced the basic geometric solids, identifying the names of three-dimensional shapes that included the sphere, rectangular prism, cube, cone, and cylinder. Metal inset frames were added to our writing shelf for fine motor practice when tracing two-dimensional shapes. We continue the process of cutting with scissors, as paper is now available to cut in addition to the clay. Children are strengthening their pincer grasp when transfering pennies into a bank, indirectly preparing them for paper to pencil handwriting. In the peace corner, the finger labyrinth was added for a calming finger tracing work building concentration and peace within oneself. This week our community also enjoyed a presentation on the importance of handwashing from the Wood County Hospital!
