October 11, 2024 Classroom West

This week we had a lot of work that allowed us to strengthen our fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. These works included transferring pennies into a bank, and using a hammer/mallet to pound tees into clay, foam, corkboard, or playdoh. In writing, students used a marker to write on a mirror. The next dressing frame was added for another self-care work; the snapping dressing frame. The dressing frames also foster a child’s independence with their clothing needs. Our first math unit was introduced about equality and inequality. (Greater than, less than, or equal to). Ask your child about the “Greedy Duck” game! Students work with numbers to determine how they relate to one another in this concept. Our class used our gustatory sense to taste sweet vs. dill pickles and green vs. black olives. We also added the finger labyrinth to trace in the peace corner. This is a very calm and self-centering work for our minds and bodies. This week our Kindergartners also walked over to Kenwood Elementary School to listen and visit with the BG1 Book Author, Jarett Lerner! We hope you are enjoying the books together at home!
