Novemer 21, 2025 Lower North

We are in the final weeks of November, and fall is in the air. Anticipation for the upcoming holidays, family gatherings, and hopefully some relaxation is right around the corner. We hope to see you this Saturday for the downtown holiday parade;)

We had a Math Unit lesson on estimation and rounding using our Squaring Chain of 10 for the younger students and the Cubing Chain of 10 for our older students. Students will be rounding numbers to the units, tens, hundreds, and thousands. A phrase that they learn to help remember how to round is, “Five or more, let it soar. Four or less, let it rest.”

We also had a lesson on Common and Proper Nouns in Grammar. This unit will be helpful when writing in Writer’s Workshop.

In History, we are studying Roman Numerals. This unit stems from the Fifth Great Lesson, How Numbers Began.  Students will match and learn to write the Roman Numerals into the millions. This unit has always been a favorite of the students.

In celebration of Thanksgiving, the students will spend time next week preparing for our feast that we will have on Tuesday. Our 3rd year students will shop for the ingredients, while others will help set up the tables, cut vegetables, make dessert, prepare hot dogs and clean up after our feast. It is tradition that both lower elementary classrooms eat together on this day. Remember if your child would like more than what is being served, or prefer something different, please send them in with their lunch.

We wish you a safe and happy weekend!
