Even though it was a short week, there was still a lot happening in the classroom.
On Monday, each student got to decorate a bag for Valentine’s Day. On Wednesday, they put their valentine’s in alphabetical order and delivered them. It’s always fun for the students and teachers to share cards and gifts with one another.
On the language shelf we have introduced the students to antonyms. Antonyms are words that have opposite meanings. Many of the word study units have fun activities to learn new vocabulary for further use in writing and communication. Learning new words is not tiring but engaging!
Additionally, students were given a new biome lesson this week as an extension to what they have previously learned and have been exploring on the Geography shelf. This new lesson introduced the students to the biome puzzle maps. The puzzle maps are a special Montessori material that children often enjoy working with. This year we will be studying the continents North America, Europe, and Australia. Therefore, the puzzle maps being explored within this Geography unit solely cover these three continents.
The Winter Olympics have begun! On our shelf we have various activities the students can choose. They can make an Olympic torch, learn the history of the Olympics, find out why the Olympic rings are certain colors and interlocking, graphing work, word searches and more. Hopefully your child will watch some of the Olympics and share with the class.
As teachers, we always look forward to meeting with all our parents during conferences. We want to work together to help the children succeed. If we haven’t met with you yet, we look forward to sharing your child’s progress with you.
Have a great weekend!
