A new science unit was explored this week all about magnets! Students began to identify objects that were magnetic or non-magnetic. A large magnet was used to find items in our classroom environment and record if they were magnetic or non-magnetic. Magnetic putty and using a magnet to track a marble through a maze were two very popular works! We also introduced the next Geography unit; My school. This expands the child’s thinking and understanding that they are more than just a part of their home and family, but also belong to their school community. The metal insets were added to the metal frames on the writing shelf for tracing and three bells can now be found on our bell table! The food preparation lesson this week was spreading jam on a cracker. Our geometric cabinet lesson also now included matching the two-dimensional shapes to their corresponding solid cards. Fun art projects this week including learning how to draw a snowflake and cutting out and then gluing a snowman for discussion on positive and negative space. The Kindergartners also receivedĀ a special math lesson on our cubing chains. It is the same process as the squaring chains but the chains are longer as they discover the cube of each numeral 1-10.
