Within the past month or two of school, a lot has happened within the classroom communities. The students have learned so much already, and normalization within the classrooms has begun. This week, students were presented with zoology, language, and botany lessons. For zoology, the students are now diving into learning about the ocean and its habitat. Within this unit study, children will discover the marine life that lives within the oceans around the world along with the different levels of an ocean.
As a part of the language curriculum, first and second-grade students were introduced to the Language Nomenclature. This work helps children build upon their writing skills while enhancing their knowledge on specific topics such as clothing, animals, flowers, prehistoric creatures, and more. When a child explores this language work they will be able to refresh on capitalization, punctuation, and sentence structure. All important writing skills that they will be able to apply during Writer’s Workshop and everyday writing.
Lastly, students have been presented with fresh work on the botany shelf. This riveting work allows for children to learn about the parts of a leaf includin the veins, midrib, apex, margin, etc. Through exploring the shelf, students will be able to gather knowledge on different types of leaves along with their characteristics. These such characteristics range from simple, compound, lobed, smooth, toothed, and much more.
Have a fantastic weekend!
