We have entered the month of September with keeping students engaged in learning while introducing new units! In Word Study, students were presented nursery rhymes. Students will be able to apply their knowledge obtained from the previous Word Study unit on rhyming, while exploring different childhood rhymes.
Aside from learning nursery rhymes, the children have been discovering the different parts of a plant on the Botany shelf. This week, students were able to begin uncovering details about two specific plant parts, the roots and the stem. Throughout the next few weeks, students will be able to explore the parts of roots and the stem along with their important functions. In addition, students will be able to explore different types of roots and different types of stems. A few types of roots include tap roots, adventitious roots, aerial roots, and tuberous roots. A few types of stems include herbaceous, aerial, and underground stems.
Additionally, students were presented with two new math lessons. Each lesson teaches the important math concepts of greater than, equal to, and less than along with odd and even. This allows for children to grasp onto not only reading and building numbers, but also expanding their knowledge towards comparing and categorizing numbers.
Lastly, over the past couple weeks, the students have been reviewing living and nonliving things along with classifying invertebrates and vertebrates on the Zoology shelf. This week, the students were presented with a lesson on specific creatures without a backbone, invertebrates! Within the invertebrate unit, children have already been able to start exploring and learning about different types of invertebrates through nomenclature cards. These invertebrates include echinoderms, annelids, mollusks, arthropods, and many more.
Next Friday, September 19 is International Day of Peace. We are asking each child to wear either a white or light blue shirt to school on this day.
Have a wonderful weekend!
