It has been a wonderful first few weeks of school! Your children’s kindness and excitement for school is invigorating. We have had a lot of fun diving into work and building a community.
This week, we are in full swing! We began Spelling, Language, Writing, Grammar, Geometry, Math, Reading, Geography, Science, History, and Spanish. For Science this week, we studied the Rock Cycle and had an in-depth study of Igneous rocks. Students did work on the Rock Cycle and then had the option of making Igneous Fudge, Metamorphic cookie bars, or Rick Krispie Sedimentary. For History this term, we will be studying Early Humans. We began our unit by going on an anthropological lasagna dig as we excavated the Island of P’sta. For Literature Circle, students are either reading Because of Winn Dixie, Island of the Blue Dolphins, or Seedfolks. Each week, students will read several pages, answer comprehension/analytical questions, and complete a reading discussion role.
Each year, the work in Upper Elementary becomes more challenging and abundant. If your child is struggling, it is only the first week of school. They will get there, and we will help them! Struggling is an integral part of growth, and here, they can do it in a safe and warm environment with lots of support.
