In the lower elementary we began the study of grammar with the study of the function of words. This means that students will learn the role of each word and how they are put together in speech. Dr. Montessori believed that children of this age are interested in grammar, and as they learn the parts of speech it will help them in their language development. We have introduced the article to the children this week. They will take the knowledge of the noun and pair it with a definite or indefinite article. Older students review this concept and apply it to their writing , while younger students practice reading simple words and phrases.
