This week in the Lower Elementary classrooms a couple new units were introduced to the students. One of the units is for Word Study. The children have completed the syllables work and are now moving onto more writing mechanic activities. Previously in writing mechanics students reviewed the period and the question mark. This week, we had lessons covering the comma and quotation marks. The Lower teachers hope by going over these writing mechanic lessons the children will be better prepared for when we start Writer’s Workshop in the next coming weeks.
Aside from Word Study, the second new unit introduced this week is the Timeline of Life in History. This unit coincides with the Second Great Lesson that Miss Liz told us at the beginning of the school year. A part of this unit also includes the Clock of Eras. The Clock of Eras covers multiple eras throughout the Timeline of Life including, Hadean, Archaean, Proterozoic, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic Eras. After being given this lesson the students were able to start exploring the shelf and discover facts about the different eras.
