May 3, 2024 Upper

I hope everyone is soaking up the sunshine! Students have been enjoying working outside this week. Our tadpoles have started growing their back legs. It’s really exciting to watch metamorphosis firsthand. This week, we learned about frogs’ skin permeability and its connection to ecosystem health. In biology, students learned about the digestive system and created their own microscope slides. In math, students studied ratios, fractions, division of negative integers, graphing, and least common multiples. In writing, 6th-year students finished their Works Cited page for religion research. 4th and 5th are working on outlines for persuasive writing. Literature Circle groups have all finished reading their mystery novels and are working on their Creative Component presentations. On Tuesday, students gave our younger students an impressive musical interpretation of a storybook. It was so fun to watch! Don’t miss their music performance next week!

Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary students invite you to join them at 9:00-10:00 am in Oberheu to watch their Music Program.  Friday, May 10, 2024, Early Childhood, Middle School, and Band students invite you to join them at 9:00-10:00 am in Oberheu to watch their Music Program. 4th Years will be going on our annual AgFest trip on May 15th. Local farmers and agriculturists will teach your students about homesteading, farming, and livestock. It’s always a fun day! See the attached details for more information.
On May 28th, Upper is going on our annual bike trip! The 6th-year students will ride to North Baltimore, the 5th-year students will ride to Cygnet, and the 4th-year students will ride to Rudolph. Thank you, Brenda, Bill P., Mark, Brynn, for signing up to join us! If any child is nervous and wants to practice before the bike trip, I will be available on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15 to 4:00 pm to practice with students on the trail every day after school until our trip. Just send your kid with a bike and helmet (pads if needed) and let me know they are coming.
May 23-24th, 6th year students are going to Put-In-Bay for their 6th year trip. So far, they have fundraised, decided on an itinerary, secured lodging, called establishments to ensure they were open and could accommodate, and made a packing list. They are currently working on finalizing permission slips. They will get those out to you as soon as they can!
