The students had a lot of fun participating in Montessori Education Week. It is always a comfort to see children enjoying books and reading. On Wednesday, in collaboration with the theme of reading for this week, the students watched a virtual reading from author Alice Walker. She read her book Sweet People Everywhere, which is a story of a young boy getting his first passport and travelling around the world to meet “sweet people”. She also talked about the process of writing a book, while Quim Torres shared his experience as the illustrator.
In addition to the special week activities, we have stayed busy in the classroom too. We switched our Science unit from The Study of Clouds, to focus on Weather and Wind.
Some of the older students received a lesson on using the dictionary for word study, while others practiced comprehension and writing mechanics.
