If you step into the 9-12 year old classroom today you will think you are in ancient Egypt! The students are engaged in a simulation of ancient Egypt. They are working in collaborative groups to create a 3-D map that includes major cities, geographical features, houses, farms and fields and of course the famous landmarks. For their first activity the students formed a group named after the ancient cities of Egypt. They studied this city and their deities and created a nome standard (flag) that represented them. They then selected their societal role and studied the clothing. Then they created their headband and khat (headdress) and their menat necklaces. They wear their Egyptian clothing and display their nome standard as they work collaboratively on their projects. Miss Sam has integrated their art projects. They are creating paper mache masks of pharaohs and gods.
