Happy New Year and Welcome back! The children were so excited to see one another and share how their winter break was. The Early Childhood classrooms started 2021 out with movement and art! The West classroom explored the aerobic step and bouncing on an exercise ball while the East classroom practiced balancing on a beam and used yoga cards for new poses! Children cut snowflakes out of coffee filters and decorated the classroom windows. East also created a snowy scene and used positive/negative space to make a snowman. West also traced a snowflake. In Practical Life, using a funnel was added to our pouring works.
Both classrooms introduced new science units. East discussed food groups and nutrition and West worked with Calendar and types of Weather/Seasons. East also added the triangle box to their sensorial shelf. West added color box 3 (color grading) to their sensorial shelf, insets to their metal insets, and introduced a new phone number work. Children used their class phonebook to practice dialing and calling. This will help them learn their own family’s phone numbers as well.
We are starting our classroom sharing bags this week. Every Friday, a name will be drawn and that child will receive the sharing bag for the next week. Each day your child will have the opportunity to bring in an item to share with the class from home. A wonderful way to learn more about our friends!
