January 26, 2024 Lower South

As our month of January continues and nears the end, many of our students are well-established and know the routine of the classroom.  We hope you saw this during your visit on Thursday at Curriculum Night.  If you were not able to join us, please take some time to visit during a school day and have your child share the work that they have been doing.  Please check with us so that we can schedule you for a good time to visit.

New this week is a word study work on prefixes and suffixes.  Prefixes are affixes that go in front of root words to create new meanings.  Suffixes are affixes that appear after the root word.  Students have several different works that give definitions of the prefixes or suffixes that they can explore.  They also have work to add words to sentences that use root words with these affixes.  Older students will learn different rules they need to remember when adding certain suffixes.  For example: Rule 1-Words ending with s,x,z,ch,or sh, add -es.  Learning new words is so exciting!
