Early Childhood explored new math units this week to learn about time and money.  Works in these units allow the children to grasp foundational concepts such as coin values, exchanging money, reading clocks, and matching times of the day.  We also extend these concepts into the writing and art shelves for a cross-curricular experience in these areas.  The classrooms also explored adding more bells to the bell table and created the scale.  In art, we added painting a heart at the easel.
East students were introduced to a new sensorial unit:  smelling.  Matching smells such as mint, orange, lavender, and even chocolate were experiences in this unit. Also, the Ks were given a lesson on odd and even numbers.
West students explored a snowflake experiment in science.  Using borax and hot water, students created crystals that clung to a shape of a snowflake for this unique project.  In movement, the sensory circles were added to the shelf.
**Please be sure to check your child’s cubby for extra clothing.  See you all at conferences next week!
