We are beginning to learn about all the different Holidays that take place during the month of December. This week we started with Hanukkah. We read books about this Festival of Lights, played the dreidel game, and discussed the eight nights, traditions, customs, and what the Menorah is. We then learned about Kwanzaa and all this celebration encompasses. Students learned about a game called Mancala, weaved a mat with the colors of Kwanzaa, the Kinara, and how the seven nights correlate to seven ideals, or principles. We also added our next geography unit on my home and discussed what our homes look like and how homes can look different all around the world. Many practical life, art, and pre-language works reflected the Holiday of Christmas, Kwanzaa, or Hanukkah as well. We will explore the Christmas holiday next week!
