December 8, 2023 EC East

As we approach the holiday season, our first cultural study explores the traditions and customs of Hanukkah. We explored a menorah, the dreidel game, and creating the star of David on the easel. Toward the end of the week, we began exploring our second cultural study of the holiday season, which included all the beautiful colors and traditions of Kwanzaa. Children had the opportunity to explore a weaving mat and bead stringing, a Mancala game and a special Kinara art project. The week also included a special movement lesson, walking on a line with a bell, an exercise in patience and concentration as they walk a line and try to keep the bell silent as they move. A new geography unit was also added, My Home, which focuses on the childrens’ homes. This unit also provides the students a tangible and visible way to study unique homes all around the world. This week’s Music class was filled with excitement and joy as we watched some older students perform some music selections for the holidays!
