December 11, 2020, EC East

We continued our study of December Holidays this week as we explored the traditions and customs of Kwanzaa. Children made kinaras, played mancala, strung color beads of Kwanzaa, and practiced weaving a mat. The Early childhood classrooms also introduced the holiday of Christmas. Children learned about the story of the birth of Jesus and were able to set up the Nativity scene. They also decorated a Christmas tree. We enjoyed a candy cane peppermint experiment and in math, demonstrated the concept of odd and even. The East classroom also sifted holiday gel beads and the West classroom made a Christmas tree yarn decoration and transferred pennies into a bank. They also used many sensorial works for a beautiful extension work called the “Sensorial Christmas tree.”

The children started working on special holiday gifts for their families this week as well!
