April 4, 2025 Upper

This week, our students cooked a special meal for people with food insecurity. We rolled up our sleeves for four days of hands-on learning, including making bread from scratch and preparing homemade chicken noodle soup. Recipients were very grateful, and a few had heartfelt stories to share with students. A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated and to Lindsay, Brynn, Heidi, and Brittany for leading the cooking!

Today, we also had the pleasure of hosting a zoo group presentation that captivated the children with fascinating insights about animals. We even got to see a Black Bear claw!

As we transition into mud season, please remember to send your child with a change of clothes and rubber boots. Some families have even chosen to bring waders. While playing in the mud may seem unconventional for school, we genuinely believe that it is beneficial for the children’s sensory development and overall well-being. Remember, there is no bad weather, only bad dress.

April 18th, Upper will have a library field trip from 9:30- 12:00 pm to gather research books for writing! We will be walking, so please help your child dress accordingly. The walk is about 20 minutes. Please send your child to school on Friday with their (or your) library card. Grounds for Thought is next to the library, and after our enriching visit, we will stop for some drinks and snacks before our leisurely walk back to school. Students should bring $5- $10 for Grounds for Thought. Permission slips will go home soon.

Get out those bikes!!! At the end of May, Upper is going on our annual bike trip! The 6th-year students will ride to North Baltimore, the 5th-year students will ride to Cygnet, and the 4th-year students will ride to Rudolph. Spring break is the perfect time to make sure your child’s bike is in order and have them practice.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement. Enjoy your week, and have a fantastic spring break when it arrives!
