April 26, 2024 Upper

We had a great week with grandparents visiting! Meeting so many special people in your child’s life was so nice. We also had Kiki, the Middle School ferret, visit us this week as Middle Schoolers went to Kentucky to visit the Ohio Caverns.
Next Wednesday, The Cocoon Women’s Shelter will be coming to Upper to give an age-appropriate overview of what The Cocoon does, why MSBG is doing the donation drive, and some prevention education for the kids.
Next Friday, May 1st, we will go to the Bowling Green Library for a field trip from 9:30- 12:00 pm to gather research books for writing! We will be walking, so please help your child dress accordingly. The walk is about 20 minutes. Please send your child to school on Friday with their (or your) library card.  If you need to get one, I have attached the application below. Just swing into the library with your filled-out form to receive one. If you can’t make that happen, no worries, just let me know. Grounds for Thought is next to the library, and after our enriching visit, we will stop for some hot drinks before our leisurely walk back to school. Students should bring $5- $10 for Grounds for Thought. Permission slips are attached.
4th Years will be going on our annual AgFest trip on May 15th. Local farmers and agriculturists will teach your students about homesteading, farming, and livestock. It’s always a fun day! See the attached details for more information.
On May 28th, Upper is going on our annual biketrip! The 6th-year students will ride to North Baltimore, the 5th-year students will ride to Cygnet, and the 4th-year students will ride to Rudolph. We are looking for one parent chaperone for 5th grade. Miss Brynn and Miss Brenda have signed up for 4th and 6th grade! Thank you, Brynn and Brenda! If any child is nervous and wants to practice before the bike trip, I will be available on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15 to 4:00 pm to practice with students on the trail every day after school until our trip. Just send your kid with a bike and helmet (pads if needed) and let me know they are coming.
May 23-24th, 6th years are going to Put-In-Bay for their 6th year trip. So far, they have fundraised, decided on an itinerary, secured lodging, called establishments to ensure they were open and could accommodate, and made a packing list. They are currently working on finalizing permission slips. They will get those out to you as soon as they can!
