April 25, 2025 Upper

We’ve had such a joyful week celebrating Grandparents and Special Adults in our classroom. The students were thrilled to give tours, ask interview questions, and proudly share their work. It’s always heartwarming to see their excitement and pride.

In language lessons this week, we explored passive, active, and reflexive verbs, as well as different types of adjectives and pronouns, and continued organizing our informational writing with outlines. For Science, we learned about Earth Day and are now working on creative advertisements to promote various renewable energy sources. We’re hoping to make seed bombs as a hands-on Earth Day activity this Friday. If you can donate bags of outdoor soil or wildflower seeds, we would be incredibly grateful!

In History, we wrapped up our Ancient Egypt unit with a celebration! Students enjoyed a feast inspired by traditional Egyptian foods and played games from the time period. We also crowned our new Pharaoh. Congrats to Gavin!

Our annual bike trip is coming up on May 22nd! Please make sure your child has been practicing and that their bike and helmet are in good working order. We’d love to have family members join us. If you’re interested, respond to this email. The more the merrier!

And finally… It’s already time for MAPS testing again! Your children did an amazing job last time. They were focused, thoughtful, and truly giving it their all. To support stamina, this round we’ll be spreading testing out across three weeks:

  • Wednesday, April 30 – Reading
  • Wednesday, May 7 – Language
  • Wednesday, May 14 – Math

The 6th-year students have been working diligently to plan their annual end-of-year field trip! As part of their tradition, the sixth graders organize, fundraise, and embark on a special trip. This year, they’ve chosen an overnight adventure to Hawking Hills, scheduled for May 15- 16th. They are selling lemonade, coloring pages, and dance classes. Please stop by their table after school and help make their trip a success!

As some of you may know, Owen (Abbie’s little brother in lower elementary) had major surgery this spring. Miss Heidi set up a meal train for the McBeath/Hinderliter family to help make their life a little easier during this challenging time.  If you can participate, please sign up for a date to drop off a meal or purchase a gift card.  Heidi drives Owen’s sister Abbie to and from school each day and would be HAPPY to bring a meal home to them if you drop it off in the classroom.  Please read the information carefully, as they do have some dietary restrictions. Thank you!
